With most of us self-isolating in our homes for the foreseeable future, the idea of getting out and about to look for a prime location for our next property will have to be put on hold until further notice. The government has stipulated that all non-essential travel must be reduced; so, house-hunters will understandably feel frustrated that they won’t be able to get out on the road and find their dream location for some weeks (or months) yet.
But fear not! Just because driving around to look for a new house may be off the cards at present, let’s try and ease the frustration a little with our handy tips on how you can find your dream location from your own sofa!
Google maps
Once you have your location in mind, take advantage of modern technology by virtually walking through the streets on Google maps! This will give you a good idea of what the area actually looks like, when you’re not able to visit it in person.
Transport links
Again, by using a service like Google, you will be able to see if there is a train or bus station in the area you’re considering moving to. You’ll be able to see how many bus stops there are in the area, how frequently they run, and how close the area is to major roads.
School search
While researching your desired location, you’ll be able to see the local schools in the catchment area and see how they measure up against the national average. All schools should now have websites where you’ll be able to see their reports, as well as find out what each individual school can offer in terms of sports and after school activities.
Local facilities
Google maps is also a fantastic way of seeing the local gyms, libraries, parks, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, and more – great for when we’re allowed back into them! Once you have found these facilities, look them up. Most will have Facebook pages and/or their own website, where you can read customer reviews and learn more about the area. When you’ve finally found an area you love, don’t forget to use our simple search tools to see how many properties are available in that location in your price range. That way, when the restrictions are finally relaxed, you’ll be in the perfect position to make the move to your dream location – happy house-hunting!
